Apocalypse August 2022
August, you have to live in it. Europe’s rivers run dry as scientists warn drought could be worst in 500 years. Crops, power plants, barge traffic, industry and fish populations devastated by parched waterways. Widespread record-breaking heatwaves. Sixty or seventy harvests left in our soil. Hybridisation of micro-cultures. The default choices need to be made greener, smart change at the policy level. Basically there’s no point in supporting environmental projects that don’t also improve human standard of living, because if people are living in poverty they do not care about environmental protection (1). Protect the people, not the legacy industries. If humans can physically see change with their own eyes, that’s a disaster. What’s the life-hack to mastery? If you really want value out of your life experience, stop trying to find a shortcut.
A decade after its government admonished southern European states to do their homework of painful fiscal changes to end a sovereign debt crisis, Germany is slowly adapting to the humbling reality of being worst-in-class when it comes to reliance on Russian gas. How swaggering and condescending they had no right to be. Taiwan preparing for war without seeking war. War, what isn’t it good for? Let’s not pretend like many adults aren’t still having adolescent tantrums and meltdowns. It’s a constant, what makes the world go round. A world of armed faith. A Christian politician cannot be racist, says Viktor Orbán in Texas, addressing CPAC. The US right fawning over Hungary; the right-wing nationalist playbook ironically becomes a global uniform. Orbán says the horrors of Nazis and Communists happened because some western states in continental Europe abandoned their Christian values, and today’s progressives are planning to do the same. They want to give up on western values and create a new world, a post-western world. Who is going to stop them if we don’t?
I will be incredibly robust in standing up against that lefty woke culture that is trying to cancel our history, our values and indeed our women, says Rishi Sunak. It’s fucking gibberish. Modern billionaires — no community conscience, no political ideology. Higher than nations. Financialisation, lack of reinvestment. Contribute to the profits. Furious marketing. Quiet quitting — working harder costs you more energy for the same money, essentially giving it to your employer for free, so what’s the point? TangPing (laying flat). My busyness doesn’t equal my worth. Eventually the only people who lived were those who did not work — another absurdist inversion, meaning of a thing tied itself in a knot. The preservation of a new immobility within history.
Too smart to be a conservative. Right wing just allows people to sit back on their haunches, acknowledge their identity and their struggles and leave the social justice to the leftist warriors. Yelling at us, saying we weren’t essential. Trying to appease the people most opposed to you, you leave out a great part of what has made this nation. On the one hand, ignorance is a right. On the other, civics is a duty. The problem is as human beings, we will not fight for things that we do not love. I have questions. I want answers. Futilis, it means leaky. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the foundation of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water (2).
Nowadays a leader can’t conscript thousands of citizens by force, put them to work on a physically gruelling vanity construction project, kill them the moment they’re no longer useful, and throw their remains in mass graves. It’s political correctness gone mad — you’re not allowed to do anything these days. Salman Rushdie attacked on stage at an event promoting freedom of expression. Let us kiss the hands of the one who tore the neck of the enemy of God with a knife. The latest debit on Khomeini’s 1989 proclamation — whoever is killed doing this will be regarded as a martyr and will go directly to heaven. God’s position is assumed, commandeered for earthly schemes, it’s a story as old as time. Yeah it can, sometimes will, often does. And if, in their devilish perversity, they refused to have perfect faith, and be at peace, give them more hell and threaten hotter flames.
Chris Hadfield, who’s actually seen it from space, with his own eyes, says the Earth is tough as nails and life is so tenacious — we could not eliminate all the life on Earth if we tried our damnedest. Life is tough, and I found that reassuring. Trying to help the Earth. Just remember your taste is not the measure of all things. Kill all mammals, it won’t disturb the planet’s systems. Our information essence scrambled and imprinted in the Hawking radiation for eternity. The total sum of world’s complexity exists, right, but to view any field or strata in detail is, at any given moment, out of necessity, to tune out the remainder — obviously the sum complexity is too much to hold in one human mind. Tribes and nationalities are products of geography i.e. topography — who on an individual level reigned and won success in any generation merely carrying favourably on the winds of fortune. Until we can transcend and come together, or else fight it out to the death and extinction — stuck here, until that imaginary time, where he who pays the piper calls the tune.
